AMANDA WELSH, PhD
Advisor
Amanda Welsh works on Partner Programs for The Nielsen Company. She has been at the intersection of media and technology for many years, including running research for Netscape and co-founding two companies – an artist and repertoire website for unsigned musicians (garageband.com) acquired by MySpace and a cross-platform media measurement company (IMMI) acquired by Arbitron, as well as spending time at Google as a Media Scientist. Along the way, Amanda has also designed award-winning video games and wrote a book on consumer data collection. Amanda's lifelong interest in understanding, quantifying and activating large data sets began with her Ph.D. in linguistics at Harvard University. In her free time, she is very proud to sit on the boards of Raising a Reader, a national non-profit that promotes literacy and the Tahoe Expedition Academy, an alternative education school based in Truckee, CA.
